The Select Case Offense dialog is used to select the statute associated with the case report's corresponding offense. To access the dialog, click the + Add new offense button on the Offenses page or the Statute field's Edit button on the General section for an existing offense.
Begin entering the name or description of a statute in the Search Statute or Description text box. As you type, the closest results display in a list below. Continuing to type automatically refines the results based on the information entered. The State, Local, County, and Federal buttons can also be used to filter the results by statute level. When enabled, the buttons display as blue with a white check mark on the left.
When the correct statue displays, select it. The Select Case Offense dialog updates, displaying the crime codes associated with the selected statue. Select a crime code, then enter the date the offense occurred in the Offense Date text box, and the number of counts the offense was committed for that statute in the Counts text box.
TIP: The Calendar button may also be used to select a date, and the Increase
and Decrease
buttons to change the count. The correct date format is MM/DD/YYYY.
After the offense date and correct number of counts are added, click the Next button. Depending on where the Select Case Offense dialog opened from, the following occurs:
If you were adding a new offense to the case report, the Select Case Offense dialog closes, and the following sections display:
General section
Criminal/Drug Activity section
Tools section
Case Offense Circumstance section
Supplemental Information section
Weapons section
Assault/Homicide section
Evidence Collected section
Domestic section
Security Systems section
If you were editing an existing offense, the Select Case Offense dialog closes, returning you to the General section.
